Colossians 3:17 (NIV84)
17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
For far too long, in western thought, many followers of Jesus have separated lives into SACRED and SECULAR. This is a very hard habit to break. All you have to do is look at a typical Sunday morning. The sacred gather for one hour. They sing songs. They listen to a sermon. They greet one-another with smiles and happy faces. Then at the end of the hour they get into their cars. They find a favorite restaurant. They eat. They return home. They feel as if they have fulfilled their duty.
Then comes Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. If at work or in leisure, they might off a “customary prayer” before a meal. Give a few dollars to a worthwhile effort to care for the poor and needy. Again, they feel as if they fulfilled their duty.
Have they really met the benchmark that Paul was asking the gathered group in Colosse? Word or deed do in the name of Jesus……. More importantly have they met the standard established by Jesus in His teaching and life? What deed have we done to share the Good News with those outside of faith – those outside of Sunday mornings. Have our words reflected the words of Jesus?
If they are truly a follower of Jesus, should not their main focus be on words and deeds that further Jesus’ commission? Who have they shared Jesus with? What is the name of the hungry and poor that they offered care?
How do WE use our vocation and life in general to reveal Jesus to the world? Have we share Jesus and instructed them to obey Him? And, quickly release them to share Jesus and instruct others to obey Him.
Coming out of COVID-19 the gathered community of faith has a great opportunity to shared Jesus and instruct people to obey. How will the gathered community of faith revel Jesus?
What COVID-19 has taught us is that the building is not essential (but nice to have) as we share Jesus through our WORD and DEED.
Really hard questions we must ask-
Have we revealed Jesus to our First Space – our home and family.
Have we revealed Jesus to our Second Space – our work or primary place of influence
How will we reveal Jesus to our Third Spaces – restaurant, stores, coffee shops, etc.?
Lord, our God. Reveal to us how our words and deeds may be used to share Jesus’ Good News. Open our hearts and minds to those outside the gathered community of faith so we may fulfill Jesus’ command to share and teach people how to obey. AMEN.

UPDATE ON GATHERING TOGETHER
We continue to be suspended due to COVID-19. It is our hope that we will be able to gather sometime in June – depending on what the health officials and the government instruct concerning churches meeting.
PLEASE CONTINUE TO MAIL YOUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS
We have been doing well with meeting most of our obligation in terms of ministry distributions (tithes to the Conference, utilities, insurance, and pastoral leadership). Thank you!
