Lord, this is your church. What you desire is our desire. Open our hearts and eyes to where you are moving, and we will join you. We will not let our past be an anchor. Instead allow our past to inform and create an urgency in us to fulfill the Great Commission. Remove our biases, like scales falling from our eyes, and let us see as you see. We are open and will join you. AMEN
John Wesley Covenant Prayer
I am no longer my own, but thine.
Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed by thee or laid aside by thee.
Exalted for thee or brought low for thee.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal.
And now, O glorious and blessed God,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
thou art mine, and I am thine.
So be it.
And the covenant which I have made on earth,
Let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.
For Leadership Team
Lord – As a member of the Leadership Team, I empty myself of my preconceived ideas and closely held views of leadership. I desire to listen for you through spiritual formation and learning. Out of this deep abiding in Jesus and his teachings I will learn to lead spiritually and not administratively. I will focus on mission and vision as revealed to us in the life of Jesus as recorded in the gospels.
I pray for my brother/s and sister/s by name _____ and _____ . Guide us to collectively lead spiritually and not administratively.
I ask that Your Holy Spirit guide us to move to where you are moving, which is not about “here – inward” but “there – outward”. Lead us, discipline us, form us, so we can fulfill Jesus’ command – the Great Commission.
It is our desire and commitment to be a people who – ENGAGE, CONNECT, MULTIPLY, AND ARE SENT. Because all that we do is ABOUT JESUS. — AMEN
Prayer in the midst of a black msn’s un-needed death, riots in the streets, and Covid-19
I am grieving today. Death of a black man for no reason – a tweeting President – riots in our cities – COVID-19. (Pastor Mark W Douglas, Friday- May 29, 2020)
Lord, we have made a mess of Your creation and our relationship with each other. I fall to my knees in lament and confession. This is us and not You. I long for the new creation. Until then, use me / us as vessels of redemption / liberation / love made visible in Jesus and given by Him to us to reveal and make real in our generation. AMEN.
Prayer For the Vineyard
Lord, we fall down and worship You. We have made a mess of your vineyard. We have embraced self-centeredness. We have embraced hatred to those who are Black, Brown. Hispanic, Latino, Asian, and Native to this land. We have embraced politics over faith. We claim to be blue or red and do not claim the way of the Kingdom.
Lord, lead us to bring Your kingdom to the vineyard. Let us set aside our self-centeredness and use all possible means to tend to the harvest. Let us love Black, Brown, Hispanic, Latino, Asian, and Natives of this land as Jesus loves them. Let us hold faith above the rhetoric of politics and soundbites. Let us embrace the Kingdom ethic and put aside the ethic politics.
Lord, we are people of the Way, committed to care and nurture Your vineyard. We will make disciples who make disciples. If we do not, remove us and place others who will in this vineyard.
God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make things right
If I surrender to His Will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next.
